Host Question: What is something you love about working in sports management or interacting with the sports management field?
Guest Answer: The number one thing is that sports are fun, and if you can’t have fun working in a sports business, you really need to kind of reevaluate what business you’re in. You know, there’s that old saying that if what you do is fun, that you’ll feel like you’re never working. I feel like that every day that I love what I do because, number one, it’s fun. And there are also so many different subject and so many different areas of the business that it just never gets boring. And I love working in sports. I really do.
Guest Answer: It sounds so cliche, but the people. There is no better culture than working in an arena or a stadium. And a lot of times when you get a degree in sports management and you go work in the fields, you’re going to be actually at the location of where games are held. And that creates a sort of buzz that is very it’s just everywhere you feel it. Everywhere you go, you meet with all the stadium personnel. Is there on tickets and game days. And then even the people in corporate offices, everybody’s excited to be showing up to work.
Guest Answer: What I love about working in the sports industry is that no matter what work you’re doing, there’s always the bigger picture that you’re working to help people really enjoy sports. And I played sports growing up. It’s always been a second language to me and my family when we were talking or having dinner together, and it’s always been a big passion of mine and knowing that at the end of the day, no matter what work you’re doing, that is what the output that you’re working towards is pretty inspiring for me.
Guest Answer: Basically just doing something that I love. You know, it doesn’t really matter what school I’m working with or what team I am working with or what level or what job. If I’m working in sports, I’m loving it. I’m doing something that I enjoy doing and working around people that love doing it. It’s even better when you get paid for working in sports because it doesn’t really feel like a job. You know, you’re doing something that you love and getting paid is like icing on the cake.
Guest Answer: I think the relationships you have with me, you can develop relationships with like minded people who seem to be open for punishment as far as, you know, work life balance and working nights and weekends and just similarities and the interest that you share. And so I think a lot of my friends across the four universities where I’ve worked have come from work. So my colleagues have turned into my best friends and I’ve been able to get married and have children. And we always rejoice and reminisce about funny stories from work and outside of work. And so I think without a doubt it’s just the relationships and friendships.
